Substitute School Nurse (LPN)

Responsible to: Coordinated School Health Coordinator

Principal
Lead Nurse

Qualifications:
1. Current licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of
Tennessee. Graduate of an accredited program and five years of recent nursing
experience.
2. Current CPR Certification in BLS
3. A serviceable automobile in order to perform required travel
4. Strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
5. Competent technological skills
^ Essential Responsibilities:

1. Clinic responsibilities to include assessment of chief complaint, parent or doctor
contact as deemed necessary by assessment findings.
2. Intervenes as guided by the Nursing Care Plan (under the direction of supervising RN)
to implement nursing actions that promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness,
and affect rehabilitation
3. Provides emergency and standard first aid
4. Promotes and assists in control of communicable diseases
5. Monitors and helps to maintain confidential health records and in compliance with
HIPPA, FERPA and the Patient Privacy Act
6. Monitors student's health and commimicates with the Coordinator of Coordinated
School Health and/or Lead Nurse when student health issues may require additional
services.
7. Administer all approved medical procedures and maintenance health treatments within
the school (i.e., tracheostomy, auctioning, catheterization, gastronomy tube feeding,
blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration and nebulizer treatments)

with School Board priorities
2. Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest
standards of public education and in support of the District's Vision/Mission
Statements
3. Maintains ethical standards, which include professionalism and the protection of
confidential student and staff information.
4. Must maintain continuing education requirements that are required by the Tennessee
Health Related Boards for Licensed Practical Nurses
5. Other responsibilities and/or duties may be required and assigned.
